A NATURAL CLUB
Having turned off the Pacific Highway about an hour's drive south of Ballina,
some newcomers to the Iluka course wonder if they have taken the wrong
turn because they never seem to be getting there. Before they reach the
club however, they are treated to a delightful 18 kilometre drive
through the Bundjalung National Park, one of the finest on the far
north coast. It stretches from Iluka to Evans Head and is characterised
by an abundance of flowers, wildlife, unspoiled beaches and many bush
walks.
In 1970 when the first Classic tournament was held, the site of the
Iluka club was a sand mine. It was not until 1974 that a group of
volunteers began to carve from the sand and the rubbish, what was to
become the Iluka Golf Club. With the granting of land for the next nine
holes, the whole course layout is under review. Trees, birdlife and
animals, so much a part of the Iluka course will be retained and added
to, to ensure the natural attractions remain.
TOURING POINTS
Enjoy the drive through
the Bundjalung National Park to Iluka, an unspoiled fishing village on
the northern banks of the mighty Clarence River. Although small, the
village offers all you need for a relaxing holiday. Apart from the golf
club and its amenities, there is a bowling club, eateries and a great
choice of accommodation. And then of course there is the beach, the
river, boats, fishing...
We welcome all our visitors and urge them to linga longa in our little world.
