COURSE REVIEW
Recent course development has provided members and visitors with a
first class practice area with target mounds, practice green and
bunker. With practice nets and lare putting green, golfers now have
first class facilities to enhance their game.
One of the special features of our course is the ever present view of Mt. Warning. Our fascinating sentinel intrigues and
delights visitors and locals alike, and is the focus of the Mt. Warning National Park which encircles the course.
SECRETS OF SUCCESS
The natural beauty of the surroundings at Murwillumbah course could be said to be one of its greatest hazards.
It is not unusual for newcomers to the course to be put off their game by the trees, mountains and general
peacefulness of the place. But ours is a tough course, and players are distracted at their peril.
The terrain is varied, with hills and flats, and the course record of 66 is a test to the strength of the course.
Those who are familiar with the course are happy to share some of the secrets learned through much trial and error,
of some of the more difficult holes, such as hole number three. Dawson's lake is 405 metres par 4,
and has bunkers to the right. It is best to drive left to avoid them, and then with a 4-iron, play straight to the green.
Hole number 14, the Pump House, is regarded by some of our better players as a classic three shot hole.
Par 5 and 522 metres, it requires an accurate drive between trees, drifting to the right of the fairway.
Use a 3-wood for the second shot well up to the left, and then down to the flag with a firm short-iron.
This is an "s" shaped fairway, and for some, the best par 5 on the course.
The hole rated hardest on the course is The Screen, number 16. It is a dog-leg left, 382 metres, par 4.
Use a 2-iron to reach the fairway plateau about 190 metres from the tee on the right,
and then shoot a vigorous mid-iron across the gully to the hillside green.
Although the course design ensures that there is plenty of room for everyone including parking
- visitors are advised to book.
