NSW Junior Championship Returns to Northern Rivers

For the first time in more than 15 years, the NSW Junior Championship and JNJG State Age Championship will return to the Northern Rivers with Byron Bay GC and Ocean Shores CC agreeing to host the event in 2020 and 2021.

Not since Murwillumbah and Mullumbimby hosted the JNJG State Age Championship back in 2005 has a junior event of this size or importance headed to the Northern Rivers, with the NRDGA supporting Jack Newton Junior Golf in it’s search to take the game to all corners of N.S.W.

Over the last 10 years, the NSW Junior Championship has moved up and down the coast of N.S.W, with the Far South Coast (Catalina/Mollymook), Mid North Coast (Coffs Harbour/Sawtwell), Illawarra (Wollongong/Links Shell Cove), Central Coast (Shelly Beach/Toukley) and most recently Newcastle (Charlestown/Belmont) taking turns at hosting one of the biggest junior events in the country. And for the next two years, the tournament will head as far North as it can, with two of the toughest courses in the Northern Rivers sure to prove a challenge to those wishing to etch their name on the coveted NSW Junior Championship trophy.

Having successfully hosted a JNJG Junior Masters event at Ballina GC for the last five years, an event which will remain on the JNJG Junior Masters Calendar in 2020 (date T.B.C), the Northern Rivers District gives juniors and parents the chance to not only go away for a week of golf, but enjoy a family holiday at the same time with so much to do and see in the surrounding areas. Players can fly directly into Ballina Byron Airport, with the much bigger Gold Coast Airport which has direct flights from all over Australia, less than an hour up the road.

The tournament will be held in the first week of the 2020 and 2021 NSW School Holidays which will once again overlap with the Queensland and Victorian School Holidays to give juniors from right across the Eastern Seaboard a chance to take part in the tournament. Byron Bay will be the main host club in 2020 and host the Cup, with Ocean Shores hosting the main event the following year.

Entries for the 2020 NSW Junior Championship and JNJG State Age Championship will open in April.
