Results from Murwillumbah incl. OOM Update and adjusted 9 hole handicaps

Posted on: 21 March

On a wonderful, clear day in Murwillumbah we were able to successfully complete our first Junior Open Day for the 2022 season.  A smaller field than previously entered for this event none the less led to some exciting golf and some great scores.

The 18 hole girls Junior Championships was won by Elly Petersen (74) from the Royal Pines Golf Club.  Elly has won this event on several previous occasions and is obviously comfortable on the layout.  The Womens Golf Northern Rivers Junior Girls Championship were conducted in conjunction with this event and was taken out by Hollie Fuller (Grafton).

The 18 hole boys Junior Championships turned into a bit of “shoot out” between local Murwillumbah player, Nick Sneesby and Byron Bay representative Kane Whitelock.  Nick eventually prevailed with a 1 over par score of 72.  The Junior Boys net champion was another Murwillumbah local in Harrison Wood with a great score of 66.

The 9 hole boys champion was again a local affair with Murwillumbah pair Hayden Bray and Ryan Stuart both shooting 55.  Araya Lundh (Surfers Paradise) was the only girl playing in the 9 hole event and we are hopeful that more young girls will take up the challenge in future events.

Finally, thank you to Jodi McCullough for the photos below.  Elly’s mum has come to our rescue again when I get home and think … “I forgot to take photos of the winners”.
