Matt Crandell takes out 2017 NRDGA Championship

Posted on 23/04/17

For the second year we held the NRDGA Championships in conjunction with the Lismore Easter 2 day event. After the flooding only 2 weeks earlier the Lismore course was in super condition and was a credit to the staff and volunteers, the greens in particular were very smooth and true with care needed when putting downhill.

A field of 186 contested the 2 days of the championship and good scoring was recorded through all grades.

Jay McKenzie, Ballina Golf Club the defending champion held the lead after the first day with an impressive 2 under par 68 from Matt Crandell from Byron Bay on 70. On the second Day Crandell’s steady golf and a round of 71 was enough to take out the Championship from McKenzie who could only manage a 75 for Runner up. Lismore’s Lloyd Kelly was 3rd another 4 strokes back.

Matt Crandell has been playing the Championships for over 20 years and the +1 handicap golfer can now add  the NRDGA Trophy to his impressive list of achievements.

In the Seniors Lismore Captain Mark Rodda carded a very good 73 to overtake overnight leader Bob McClelland and his 152 was good enough for a 5 shot win.

The Lismore Golf Club is thanked for putting on such a well-run event and special mention to Professional Peter Jaeger and Club President Phil Creary for this outstanding smoothly coordinated weekend.
