Maclean Delivers Again as Junior Golf Thrives in the Northern Rivers

Maclean had a tough act to follow after the excitement of Teven—but as it does year after year, it rose to the occasion in style.

What continues to set Maclean apart is its genuine passion for junior golf. Not just the elite level, but right down to the 5-hole juniors—the true future of the region and, ultimately, the game itself. That commitment is reflected in the tireless efforts behind the scenes, with Paul and Wendy once again going above and beyond, travelling far and wide to support the players and ensure the event’s success.

Every year, without fail, someone remarks that they had no idea such a fantastic course existed in Maclean—and just as reliably, they say they’ll be back. For those chasing a true Aussie golf experience, this is hard to beat: a full 18 holes, superb greens, a genuine test of skill, and a welcoming club atmosphere that makes everyone feel at home.

Off the course, the spirit of the event was just as impressive. Feedback from the competition highlighted how the older players embraced and encouraged the younger ones—playing in exactly the right spirit. It’s this kind of environment that GNR is proud to foster, giving young golfers not just a place to compete, but a sense of belonging and lasting memories.

On the leaderboard, Noah Adey made it back-to-back wins with another outstanding performance, while local Eli Kenyon showed remarkable consistency with two runner-up finishes across the weekend’s gross events. In the Nett division, it was Grafton who led the way, claiming first and second through Tom Preston and LeBron Mercy.

In the 9-hole competition, Cooper Arthur and Ethan Rugless took out the Gross and Nett titles respectively, with Cooper jumping out to an early lead in the Order of Merit standings.

Meanwhile, the ever-growing 5-hole contingent continues to be a highlight, with plenty of smiles and enthusiasm on display—proof that the future of the game is in great hands.

Next stop for the GNR series: Kyogle, on June 28.
